A living legend of the pen

Born Barry Adrian Reese in Philadelphia, Cassidy first made his name on the battle-rap circuit in the late 1990s before producer Swizz Beatz discovered his group Larsiny and signed him to Full Surface Records. His 2003 single "Hotel" (featuring R. Kelly) climbed to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his debut album Split Personality (2004) debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. His acclaimed B.A.R.S. — The Barry Adrian Reese Story cemented his reputation as one of the most technically gifted rappers the genre has ever produced.

Widely regarded as one of the first artists to bridge the underground battle scene and mainstream success, Cassidy is known for a mathematical, "science"-driven approach to writing that has shaped a generation of MCs. As his own motto goes: the bars are back.
